Within our first two months of school, SGA has hosted two separate Color Wars related events, one each in September and October. Colors Wars is a series of competitions between the various color groups and family lineages at Biotech. All students are assigned a “family” composed of one member from each grade, and a group of families fall into one of ten different color groups. These colors then compete in various challenges and competitions throughout the year with the goal of winning by the end of the year.

September’s event was a school-wide bingo-scavenger hunt where families had to find and complete specific tasks in the order they were called, such as taking a selfie with a teacher, exploring different areas of Biotech, and finding out which college a previous Biotech alum attended. In the end, the first families to cross out their boxes in a vertical, horizontal, and diagonal orientation respectively claimed points for their Color Group, met with rallying cries and cheers in the MPR.
In October, SGA hosted three challenges: The Water Bucket Challenge, Relay Race, and Door Decorating Contest. The Water Bucket Challenge included three to five volunteers per team, and the goal was to pour large quantities of water, such as from a giant bucket, into increasingly smaller cups, and have the fullest cup by the end. Sophomore Gurbaani Kakkar, pictured above, participated in the event, and stated afterwards that “it was worth the sacrifice.” It was certainly a memorable experience for both participants and spectators.
The second event, the Relay Race, involved four pairs from each color group balancing an egg on two spoons as they walked across the field. Participants had to ensure not to drop their egg and to thoroughly circle their chair, or else they would have to start from the beginning. The event had both participants and spectators engaged at all moments and was thoroughly exciting. The final category, Door Decorating, occurred during the entire week leading up to the event. Color groups were assigned specific doors to work on, pertaining to the theme of their teacher, and it was a creative and exhilarating process.
All in all, the series of Color Wars events has been enjoyable for students across Biotech, and we are eagerly anticipating future events! ❧
