Every year, Biotech students look forward to a special surprise on Valentine’s Day: a tuneful break from class with Musical Valentines, featuring Biotech acapella singers who come bearing a melodious message for a student in the class they enter! Sent by friends, significant others, and even secret admirers, these serenades have always been a popular way to display one's affections to their person of choice, and let the rest of the world know about them as well. Senior Shivani Bisabathuni, Co-President of the Arts & Entertainment Club that runs the program, recounts her experience below with Musical Valentines this year with fellow Co-President Meera Nair.
After participating in it for the past two years, it was really exciting to help lead Musical Valentines. I’ll admit, we were a little worried that people wouldn’t buy them at first, but Biotech students came through! Amidst the hectic preparation and large variety of custom songs, I think I can speak for all of the singers when I say that it brought some color and excitement to Valentine’s Day at our school. My A&E co-president, Meera Nair, adds “Though it was 98% memes, I think it still brought some joy to the lifeless monotony that is Biotech.”
Some honorable song mentions include the “Miraculous Theme Song,” “Girls Need Neev,” and “Geometry Dash.” I’d like to give a special thank you to the singers, especially the seniors who sang for us throughout the year in BOTC Acapella, Winter Caroling, and Musical Valentines.
Senior Natalie Dundas, recipient of the musical valentine “Wise Man” by Frank Ocean, commented, “It really transformed the way I look at Valentine’s Day and I love A&E so much for it. Cupid hit me with precision.”
Senior singers Zehra Taqvi and Nick Chang remarked, “We thought it was a really good experience and great way to spread love throughout the Biotech community.”
Senior singer Amisha Rastogi added, “Some of the songs were weird and the snow day before threw us off, but we still had a good time. As they say, the show must go on!”
SPEAKING OF SHOWS, our musical show days are Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 at 7:00 pm! Be sure to attend with your friends and family! ❧
